Former Gor Mahia forward Samuel Onyango is happy with his first Super League game for Zambian side Kabwe Warriors FC.

Onyango played full time at Railway Stadium, Kabwe on Saturday as visiting Zesco United forced a barren draw to share the spoils.

“It was a good first game for me. I had trained for three weeks with the team and adapted well to the prevailing hot weather, so I managed,” the Kenyan international told Mozzart Sport.

The former Ulinzi Stars and Sony Sugar FC player is equally delighted with the reception he has been accorded saying it has enabled him to settle fast.

“They received me very well, the management and even my new teammates; I have already known them, and I feel at home.”

Onyango penned a two-year contract to join the George “Chicken” Lwandamina coached side, ending his five-season stay at K’Ogalo.

In the five seasons at the multiple Kenyan champions, he scored a total of 35 in competitive games, won three Kenyan Premier League titles and numerous other fringe trophies. He was part of the squad that soared high in Africa, reaching the quarterfinals of the CAF Confederation Cup.

The Warriors have played ten matches this season, winning only one, drawing six and losing three. They are presently placed 15th on the log table with nine points. Military side Red Arrows top the 16-team table with 21 points from a similar number of matches.

The Warriors next outing will be away to Kansanshi Dynamos on Sunday. The Solwezi-based side is home Kenyan striker Jesse Were who was previously stationed at Zesco United.

“I want to keep working hard in training so that I can get more playing time, my goal is to give my best to the club,” Onyango said.

Warriors are the second most successful club in Zambia in terms of trophies won, only behind Mufulira Wanderers, but have not won the league title since 1987.
