Gor Mahia coach turns down three big offers, pays allegiance to the club

Gor Mahia head coach Dylan Kerr has turned down big coaching offers from three different countries to dedicate his loyalty to the Kenyan side.

With Gor Mahia performing well in the past one year, the club has been on the radar of many clubs scouting for players and the head coach was not spared either.

The latest and surprising incident is that of an agent who took striker Meddie Kagere to Simba contacting him with a good offer to take him to a top club in Angola.

In his response to the agent, the Briton outrightly turned down the offer.

The first offer came from South African club with the second one coming from Tanzania.

Kerr says he has a good work relationship with Gor Mahia and what he is doing is for the greater good of Gor Mahia and Kenyan football.

“The agent contacted me with what sounded like a good offer for a coaching job in Angola… same way the South African and Tanzanian clubs contacted me but no, I have a great relationship with my club. Sometimes it’s hard and difficult with some things but what we’re doing is for the better of Kenyan football and for the better of Gor Mahia,” the coach exclusively revealed to the official club’s website.

Kerr says the team is not perfect and is a work in progress which he would like to accomplish not abandon the club like it’s been done by other coaches previously.

“We are not perfect, we are a work in progress. Had I done what the three previous coaches at Gor Mahia did – ran away to the best offer, I’d have gone three times in the past two weeks. This is a club with great potential… a club that can be one of the biggest in Africa and if l am offered the chance to guide it, why should l move? Sometimes it’s not about the money but the hapiness and what one wants to achieve in his career,” stated Kerr.

The coach says he is happy at Gor Mahia because players have been working hard for him, things are going on well and most of it all, if not all, fans appreciates what the team is doing.

“The players have worked so hard for me for the one year I have been here… they work hard for the fans who always appreciate the way we play because we are dedicated to be the best each day.”

Kerr has guided the team to the big stage of Continental football where Gor Mahia qualified to the Caf Confederation group stage matches after so many fruitless attempts before.

The Briton has also managed to lead his side in a good run in local competitions where K’Ogalo are leading the league with a gap of 12 points and a stretch of unbeaten 23 league matches.

But wengi uanza hivi, first they deny then they pick the offer. Time for the office to strengthen their relationship with the coach or else tutawachwa vibaya.

I think what others don’t understand is that for a coach to produce a good results and succeed is through good relationship between players and management. Not by his own…. what happened at Simba, they threw him away but what of Gor……. good results…bravo bravo kerr
