Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed believes the future of Kenyan football belongs to community clubs, and the promotion of Migori Youth FC, Mombasa United FC and 3K FC to the SportPesa Premier League is living proof.
“The future of Kenyan football lies in our community clubs. The promotion of Migori Youth Football Club, Mombasa United Football Club and 3K FC to the SportPesa League demonstrates that when we invest in grassroots football, we build stronger clubs, nurture local talent and secure the long-term growth of the sport.”

The three clubs come from different parts of the country, but they share one thing in common: they have earned promotion by building from the grassroots rather than relying on big-money backing.
Migori Youth FC – A Historic First for South Nyanza
Migori Youth have written one of the greatest chapters in the county’s football history by securing their first-ever promotion to Kenya’s top flight.
Founded as a community club to nurture talent across Migori County, the team has steadily climbed the football pyramid through disciplined management, local player development and unwavering support from fans. Their rise gives South Nyanza a strong representative in the Premier League and creates a pathway for talented youngsters who previously had few opportunities to showcase their abilities.
Their promotion is expected to boost football development, business activity and youth participation across Migori and neighbouring counties.
Mombasa United FC – Coastal Football Returns to the Big Stage

Mombasa United’s return to the Premier League is another major victory for Kenyan football.
The club has experienced years of ups and downs, including relegation and financial struggles, but has rebuilt itself into a competitive side capable of challenging for promotion. Their return strengthens Coast football, a region that has produced many of Kenya’s finest players over the decades.
With passionate supporters and one of the country’s richest football cultures, Mombasa United will be hoping to restore the Coast’s reputation as a powerhouse of Kenyan football.
3K FC – The New Force from Central Kenya

3K FC’s promotion is perhaps the biggest surprise story of the season.
The club has quietly grown into one of the country’s most organised community teams, focusing on youth development, disciplined coaching and long-term planning instead of short-term success. Their rise underlines the increasing competitiveness of the National Super League and shows that ambitious community clubs can now compete with traditional football giants.
For many young players in Central Kenya, 3K FC has become a symbol that hard work and patience can open the door to top-flight football.
A New Era for Kenyan Football
The promotion of these three clubs reflects FKF’s vision of strengthening football from the grassroots. Rather than relying only on established giants, Kenya’s football future is increasingly being shaped by community-owned clubs that invest in local talent, youth academies and sustainable development.
With Migori Youth representing South Nyanza, Mombasa United carrying the hopes of the Coast and 3K FC flying the flag for Central Kenya, the 2026/27 SportPesa Premier League promises fresh rivalries, new fan bases and exciting stories.
For Kenyan football, this is more than promotion—it is a powerful reminder that the game’s brightest future begins in local communities.
