Gor Mahia showed character and composure to edge past Mathare United 2–1 in an entertaining league encounter, with Morrisson’s late penalty proving decisive in a tightly contested match.

K’Ogalo started on the front foot, asserting control early and pinning Mathare United in their half. Kapen nearly gave Gor Mahia the lead in the 7th minute with a header that flashed just wide, before Shariff Musa electrified the crowd moments later with a brilliant solo run that forced a smart save from the Mathare goalkeeper.

Gor Mahia continued to dictate play, with Morrisson and Silvestre both testing the opposition keeper as chances kept coming. Despite sustained pressure, Mathare United stayed compact and dangerous on the break, with Ebenezer Adu-Kwaw going close twice late in the first half. The teams went into the break level, Gor Mahia left to rue missed opportunities.

The second half saw Gor Mahia raise the tempo, making tactical changes to inject fresh energy into the attack. The breakthrough finally arrived in the 67th minute when Ebenezzer Assifuah unleashed a powerful strike that beat the Mathare goalkeeper to hand Gor Mahia a deserved lead.

Mathare United, however, refused to fold. In the 83rd minute, substitute Okoth made an instant impact, finishing from close range after a dangerous delivery from Kiprotich to restore parity and set up a tense finale.

Gor Mahia responded with maturity and belief. Just five minutes later, a lapse in the Mathare defense resulted in a penalty for K’Ogalo. Morrisson stepped up and calmly dispatched the spot kick in the 88th minute, sealing a crucial victory and sending the Green Army into celebration.

The win underlines Gor Mahia’s resilience and attacking intent, as they continue to push forward in their campaign. Mathare United, despite the defeat, will draw positives from a disciplined and spirited performance.

Scorers:
Assifuah (67’), Morrisson (88’ pen) – Gor Mahia
Okoth (83’) – Mathare United

Man of the Match: Morrisson – influential in midfield and decisive from the penalty spot.
