Gor Mahia Administrative Manager Ronald Ngala has cautioned against complacency after the Mozzart Bet Cup Round of 32 draw held on Thursday, 19 February 2026, at Kasarani.
Speaking after the draw, Ngala welcomed the challenge, noting that Gor Mahia will face a side that has already proven its quality.
“It feels good that we are meeting a team that eliminated one of the giants in Kenyan football. We are prepared. I was speaking to the coach just a few minutes ago and he was eager to know our next opponent. We are happy to be playing at home against a team we believe will give us a very good game. This will not be a walkover.”
Ngala went on to draw lessons from history, reminding fans and players alike of the unpredictable nature of knockout competitions.
“Many people may not know that the only continental trophy won by a Kenyan club came through this tournament. Back in 1987, Gor Mahia won the continental title after playing a lower-tier side, Bandari FC, in the final. At the time, Gor Mahia were in the Super League, the top tier, while Bandari were in Division One.”
He added that Gor Mahia’s 1987 triumph remains unmatched in the region.
“That remains the only continental trophy won in East and Central Africa. The only clubs that have come close since are Simba SC and Al‑Merrikh. This shows there are no small teams in this tournament. Every opponent must be treated as an equal.”
Gor Mahia will now shift focus to preparation as they look to navigate another tricky Mozzart Bet Cup assignment, fully aware that history offers both inspiration and warning.
