Gor Mahia head coach Charles Akonnor has moved to firmly dismiss speculation linking him with a return to the Ghana national football team, insisting he remains committed to the Kenyan giants.
Amid growing reports from Ghana that he is among candidates being considered by the Ghana Football Association following the departure of Otto Addo, Akonnor has broken his silence with a clear message to the Gor Mahia faithful.
“I won’t go anywhere. Yes, there’s been a bit of discussions but I will be here. I was once the head coach of Black Stars but I’m here now.”
His statement comes at a time when Ghanaian media, including Sporty FM, have listed him among four local tacticians under consideration for the national team role. The shortlist reportedly includes Kwasi Appiah, Laryea Kingston, and Desmond Ofei.
Despite the external interest, Akonnor’s remarks underline his intention to continue his project at Gor Mahia, where he has been instrumental in bringing structure, discipline, and renewed tactical identity to the squad.
The former Black Stars coach, who previously handled the national team between 2020 and 2021, acknowledged the discussions but emphasized his current focus remains firmly on K’Ogalo.
His reassurance will come as a major boost to Gor Mahia, who are pushing for consistency in the FKF Premier League and seeking stability within the technical bench.
While the situation surrounding the Ghana job continues to evolve, Akonnor’s stance signals continuity for Gor Mahia, for now, offering calm amid what had threatened to become a disruptive period for the club.
