Record champions Gor Mahia FC suffered a shocking exit from the Mozzart Bet Cup after falling 1–0 to giant killers BB Bread FC in a dramatic encounter.

BB Bread head coach Ajastine Okoba revealed after the match that his team spent hours studying Gor Mahia’s previous games, carefully analyzing their style and weaknesses before stepping onto the pitch.

“We watched many of their matches and prepared well. Our game plan was simple — defend well and take the chances when they came,” Okoba explained.

The tactical discipline paid off as the underdogs stunned the Kenyan giants and booked their place in the next round.

Captain Confirms the Strategy

The BB Bread captain admitted the team knew they were facing a stronger opponent on paper.

“Quality-wise, we knew Gor Mahia FC was ahead of us, but football is decided on the pitch. We focused on defending and taking our opportunities.”

Shock and Celebration After the Final Whistle

BB Bread players could hardly believe what they had achieved after eliminating the most decorated club in Kenyan football history. The victory sparked wild celebrations, marking one of the biggest upsets of the tournament.

A Bigger Message for Kenyan Football

The result is also a reminder that Kenya is rich in football talent. Teams considered “small” are showing that with proper preparation and belief, they can compete with the biggest clubs.

Clubs like AFC Leopards SC and Gor Mahia FC being pushed or beaten by lesser-known sides is not necessarily a humiliation, it is proof that talent exists across the country.

The challenge now lies with the Football Kenya Federation to strengthen youth development, league structures, and talent pathways so that this raw potential can be nurtured.

If properly harnessed, Kenya has every ingredient to become a football powerhouse in the region.
