Today is just another day to the rest of the world. But for the Green Army, this date hits different. Very different.
On this day in 2019, Gor Mahia FC reminded Africa who runs Kenyan football, brushing aside Algeria’s NA Hussein Dey 2–0 in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage.
Moi International Sports Center Kasarani was rocking. Belief was loud.
And K’Ogalo were in full continental beast mode.
First, Francis Kahata stepped up with ice in his veins and magic in his boots, boom! The net rippled, the stands erupted. Then came Jacques Tuyisenge, calm, ruthless, deadly. Game sealed. Statement made.

That night, Gor Mahia climbed to the top of the group with six points from three matches. Not hope. Not luck. Authority.
Under the fiery guidance of Hassan Oktay, K’Ogalo didn’t just compete, they announced themselves. The campaign rolled on, belief growing with every match, until Gor Mahia marched into the CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinals.
Read that again, Green Army, Quarterfinals. In Africa.
They finished second in the group behind Egypt’s heavyweights Zamalek SC, both teams tied on nine points, separated only by goal difference. NA Hussein Dey were left chasing shadows in third, while Angola’s Petro Atlético de Luanda settled for fourth.
And here’s the flex that still burns rivals to this day;
Gor Mahia remain the ONLY Kenyan club to ever reach the CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinals.
- No debate.
- No revision.
- Just facts.
So yes—today matters.
It’s a reminder of who we are, what we’ve done, and what K’Ogalo looks like when Africa is watching.
- History written in green.
- Respect earned on the continent.
- Forever Green Army. 💚🟢
