Kenyan champions Gor Mahia FC have officially parted ways with midfield talisman Austin Odhiambo, who has completed a move to Lebanese powerhouse Nejmeh SC, marking a major milestone for both the player and the Kenyan game.
Nejmeh confirmed the signing with an emotional unveiling, hailing Odhiambo as “the playmaker of the Kenyan national team” and welcoming him from the historic Lighthouse Castle, underlining the club’s high expectations of the former Gor Mahia star.
Odhiambo departs K’Ogalo after an exceptional spell that saw him establish himself as one of the most decisive players in the FKF Premier League. During the 2023/24 season, the attacking midfielder was at the heart of Gor Mahia’s title charge, registering 12 goals and 13 assists to propel the record Kenyan champions to an unprecedented 21st league crown. His outstanding performances earned him the FKF Premier League Most Valuable Player (MVP) award, capping a season to remember.
The 2024/25 campaign further underlined his consistency and growth. Despite increased attention from opposition defenses, Odhiambo still managed 11 league goals, continuing to dictate play and deliver in big moments for Gor Mahia.
Beyond club football, Odhiambo has also been influential on the international stage. He represented Harambee Stars at the CHAN tournament, where he scored twice against DR Congo and Angola, showcasing his ability to perform against top continental opposition.
His move to Nejmeh SC represents another successful export for Gor Mahia, reinforcing the club’s reputation as a breeding ground for elite talent capable of competing beyond Kenya’s borders. For Odhiambo, the transfer offers a new challenge in Middle Eastern football and an opportunity to further elevate his career on an international platform.
As Gor Mahia turn the page and begin planning for life without their midfield general, fans will take pride in seeing one of their own take the green-and-white legacy abroad.
Once green, always green.
