Gor Mahia FC has officially announced the departure of midfielder Rodgers Ouma following a mutual agreement, making him the latest player to exit the record Football Kenya Premier League champions. This decision comes as part of the club’s broader strategy to revamp the squad ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Rodgers Ouma joined Gor Mahia at the beginning of the 2023/24 season from rivals Tusker FC, where he had previously made a name for himself as a talented midfielder.

Prior to his time at Tusker, he also featured prominently for the now-defunct Western Stima in the Kenyan Premier League. Despite being a relatively recent addition to the squad, Ouma’s impactful performances and contributions during his two-year stint at Gor Mahia will be fondly remembered by fans and teammates alike.

In a statement released by the club, Gor Mahia expressed gratitude for Ouma’s efforts: “Midfielder Rodgers Ouma will be departing the club on mutual agreement. We extend our sincere thanks to Rodgers for his contributions during his time with us and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.” This highlights the club’s recognition of his commitment and significance to the team during his tenure.

Ouma’s exit comes on the heels of recent announcements regarding the departures of other long-serving players, Boniface Omondi and Samuel Onyango.

Both players were integral to the team’s past successes but will not be offered contract extensions as Gor Mahia undergoes a significant transition. Omondi’s contract was set to expire in August, while Onyango’s was scheduled to end in September.

This reshuffling is part of a wider strategy to rejuvenate the squad after a challenging 2024 season, during which the club failed to secure any trophies. To facilitate this new direction, Gor Mahia introduced former Ghana national team coach Charles Akonnor as their new head coach on August 1, 2025.

Fans are hopeful that his expertise will lead the team back to its winning ways and restore its status as one of the top clubs in Kenyan football.

As Gor Mahia looks to rebuild and strengthen its squad for upcoming competitions, the departures of Ouma, Omondi, and Onyango mark a pivotal point. The club’s management is expected to target new talents to complement the existing squad, aiming for improved performances in the coming season.
