Harambee Stars Head Coach McCarthy to put more attention on Local League

New Harambee Stars head coach Benni McCarthy has promised to focus more on the local league and maximize its potential.

“I’ll be spending lots of time in the country to catch local games and see our talented players abroad. I truly believe in watching players live rather than just relying on stats or highlights,” the 47-year-old shared during his unveiling ceremony with the Football Kenya Federation (FKF).

With a remarkable career that includes winning the UEFA Champions League, Benni steps in as the permanent replacement for Engin Firat, who resigned late last year.

“I’m honoured to take on this role, and I’m excited about the journey ahead with the Kenyan national team,” he said in his introduction. “I’ve seen the talent here, and I know we have immense potential to compete at the highest level.”

FKF President Hussein Mohammed pointed out that selecting McCarthy wasn’t easy, but they are thrilled to have found the “right person” to lead the team forward.

“His experience, vision, and dedication to developing Kenyan football are perfectly in line with our goals,” Mohammed stated. “We believe this team will bring in tactical discipline, structure, and a winning mentality as we gear up for upcoming competitions.”

The Gor Mahia News team is delighted to welcome Benni McCarthy to the Harambee Stars family! A strong Gor Mahia reflects the heart of Kenyan football, and we can’t wait to see how Benni’s expertise and passion will uplift the game in our country. Together, we’re confident he’ll make a fantastic impact on Kenyan football. Welcome aboard, Benni!
