Gor Mahia baptize Sofapaka in Machkos

Reigning champions Gor Mahia fulfilled their promise by securing a 2-0 victory against a resilient Sofapaka in a midweek FKF Premier League match played at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Wednesday.

The match saw K’Ogalo take the lead in the 13th minute, courtesy of Captain Geoffrey Ochieng’s header following a goalkeeping error from Sofapaka. Ochieng’ capitalized on a free-kick delivered by Enock Morrison, as Sofapaka’s goalkeeper, Baron Obiero, failed to collect the ball after advancing off his line.

Despite Sofapaka, also known as “Batoto ba Mungu,” coming close to equalizing, their striker Baron Ochieng missed a. crucial opportunity, hitting the crossbar with his shot.

In the second half, Musa Shariff nearly doubled Gor Mahia’s lead with a thrilling shot, only for Sofapaka goalkeeper Baron Obiero to make a crucial save, deflecting the ball for a corner kick.

Although Rogers Ouma had a chance to score for Gor Mahia, his shot sailed over the bar. The pressure from K’Ogalo eventually paid off, with Shariff Musa finding the back of the net to secure the second goal, much to the delight of the fans.

Despite protests from Sofapaka players, claiming the ball had not crossed the line, the referee upheld the decision.

Gor Mahia’s victory now places them in fourth position in the league standings with 27 points.
