Gor Mahia have been handed a close to Ksh2 million bill by Sports Kenya following chaos witnessed at Kasarani Stadium last weekend when a section of fans caused great damage at the facility.

Sports Kenya, the body responsible for managing stadia in the country, has billed K’Ogalo Ksh1,995,000 for the damage which saw seats, electrical panes as well as wooden panels destroyed during the club’s FKF Premier League clash against Murang’a Seal last Saturday.

Gor, who have been using Kasarani Stadium as their home ground, will also not be allowed in any Sports Kenya-managed facility until they pay for the damage.

Ugly scenes were witnessed when a section of fans caused mayhem inside the match venue, leading to running battles with the security personnel.

Chaos initially started when an angry Gor Mahia fan stormed onto the pitch to attack the referee, claiming that the standards of officiating had been poor during the game.

Benson Omala had scored a goal that was flagged offside, but it looked controversial considering the Murang’a Seal goalkeeper parried the ball back straight at the striker, who then found the back of the net before being flagged offside.

There was another incident where a Murang’a Seal player made foul towards the end of the game, but the referee appeared not to take notice.

As a result, fans vented their frustration and then started uprooting seats in the stands and throwing them onto the pitch, which prompted the police to fire teargas and rubber bullets in attempts to chase them away.

The chaos continued for an extended period of time before things eventually calmed down inside the ground but the damage was huge and visible.

It is not the first time Sports Kenya has billed the club over incidents of hooliganism but it appears the powers that be have been unbale to tame the vice.
