Gor Mahia hardman Geoffrey ‘Simiti’ Ochieng’ has urged fans to turn out in droves for every game and not just the Mashemeji Derby.

Ochieng’ was instrumental as he led Gor Mahia to a win over Mashemeji derby rivals AFC Leopards on Saturday afternoon, bobbing up and down the left flank whenever the opportunity allowed him to.

The left-back insisted that Gor Mahia did not win against AFC Leopards ‘easily’ considering they beat them in the previous clash back in May.

“What gave us the motivation was how we prepared,” he said. “We prepared knowing that it was no ordinary match,” he told Pulse Sports.

“A derby is not a normal game. Form counts for nothing in a derby. Everything we did, we did, knowing the most important thing was to get the three points, be it a derby or any other team. We fought hard and got the win.

“It is not easy. Last time, they beat us so it is not easy.”

Ochieng’ is hopeful that the fans can start turning up for games regularly to support the team and not just in big games like the Mashemeji Derby.

The captain has made a rallying call to support their team at all times, not just big fixtures like the game on Saturday.

“We hope that the fans can come for the games every time. They should not just look forward to the Mashemeji Derby alone.

“They need to come for the games because if they are there, there is a 12th man who helps us with the support and we get the motivation to win the games.”

Gor Mahia had dominated Leopards for seven years before Ingwe ended the hoodoo in May with a 2-1 victory at Nyayo Stadium.

However, the 2-0 win on Saturday got K’Ogalo their mojo back, lifting the pressure off McKinstry’s hands after fans made their feelings known towards the Northern Irishman over how cardinal it was to lose to Leopards.
