Gor Mahia first choice goalkeeper gad Mathiews is back in the den after after a long injury layoff. Gads’ presence has been dearly missed, sparking numerous rumors surrounding his absence and potential departure from the illustrious club.

Fans and followers of Gor Mahia were left puzzled when Mathews was notably absent in the opening matches of the season.

To all the supporters and entire family ,what do i say ,Thank you for your suuport and belief .To GMAF keep doing what you doing much appreciated .Now the hunt has just begun feels good to be back fully🙏🏽💚💚💚🫡@Gor Mahia FC’. Gad Mathews

However, K’Ogalo head coach, Jonathan McKinstry, recently cleared the air, explaining the reasons behind the experienced player’s noticeable absence from the field.

According to McKinstry, Mathews had undergone critical surgery in mid-August, which necessitated an eight-week recovery period, effectively sidelining him for the initial matches of the season.

In an emotional message addressed to the club’s ardent supporters and the larger Gor Mahia family, Mathews expressed his heartfelt gratitude for their unwavering support during his challenging recovery phase.

“To all the supporters and the entire family, what can I say? Thank you for your support and belief. To the Gor Mahia fraternity, keep doing what you’re doing; it’s much appreciated. The hunt has just begun. It feels good to be back fully at Gor Mahia,” he eloquently stated.

While Mathews was on the mend, coach McKinstry had no choice but to rearrange his defensive setup. This led him to work closely with Kevin Omondi, who has undoubtedly risen to the occasion.

Omondi, tasked with guarding the goal, delivered outstanding performances in the four matches Gor Mahia has engaged in this season. His commendable efforts have not only helped keep the team competitive but have also alleviated the pressure and allowed Mathews a stress-free recovery.

Earlier, there had been talks linking the former Kariobangi Sharks player with another top-flight outfit  Bandari. In fact, an official from the Dockers even claimed that an agreement had been reached for the transfer of the seasoned goalkeeper.
