Things have gone from bad to worse for Gor Mahia as the club have been ordered by the Sports Disputes Tribunal to pay their former player Clifton Miheso Kes. 2,225,000 plus costs and interest for breach of his contract.

The versatile player moved to court demanding that Sirkal paid him his outstanding dues in accrued salaries and unpaid signing-on fee, and the court has now ruled the case in his favor.

Miheso joined Gor from then NSL side Kenya Police and signed a 2-year deal with the Champions back in August 2019.

He would return to Police two years later when the side won promotion back to the topflight under the stewardship of then coach John Bobby Ogolla.

Gor Mahia’s tendency to be at loggerheads over contractual disputes with former employees is not new.

In July, Gor Mahia were kicked out of the 2023/2024 Champions League campaign for an issue not too dissimilar to Miheso’s, as one of their other former players Sando Yangayay took the club to CAF citing unpaid wages.

Jules Ulimwengu and goalkeeper Adama Keita were the other players who had claimed Gor Mahia had failed to honor their dues on time.

In 2021, Ugandan Shafik Batambuze, Dickson Ambundo of Tanzania and coach Steven Polack took the matter to Fifa and the Kenyan heavyweights were banned from bringing in new faces until they fully settled the trio financially.

But K’Ogalo went on to sign players before clearing with the players and Fifa, and the new arrivals featured in the Super Cup against Tusker FC.

This resulted in Football Kenya Federation (FKF)  being ordered to pay 6 million after they cleared the signings of new players without getting approval from the world football governing body.
