Media Watch: Psyched up Omala drooling for ‘Golden Shoe’ after positive start

Gor Mahia forward Benson Omala reckons that he stands a good chance of winning the ‘Golden Boot’ this season following his terrific start of life in the campaign.

The striker has netted two goals in as many matches to aid his side collect six points from the two ties against Nzoia Sugar and Bidco United.

Omala who was deemed as the next big thing after making the much-publicized move from Western Stima to Gor two years ago hasn’t lived up to the expectations of many who feel that he has been punching below his weight.

However, the former national U20 goal poacher who penned a five-year-long deal with the former league champions believes that he will savor a breakthrough at the end of the season should he maintain a good start.

He says the confidence he has tapped from coach Jonathan McKinstry and the efforts he has put in polishing his goal-scoring instincts will enable him to scoop the award at the end of the campaign.

“It is possible to win the prestigious award at the end of the season should I keep scoring in each fixture. The pressure to perform has always been there but the good thing is I have learned how to tackle it. My plan is to continue taking the scoring chances in every game,” he said.

Meanwhile, Omala tipped K’Ogalo to clinch the league title this season despite the lean squad the technical bench has been forced to work with.

Gor who lost the gong to Tusker two years ago are still serving a transfer ban for defaulting on payments owed to their former players.
