Media Watch: Stupid mistakes caused us against Tusker says Spier

Gor Mahia head coach Andreas Spier says they got punished for individual mistakes after they went down 2-0 to Tusker FC at the William Ole Ntimama Stadium in Narok County on Saturday afternoon.

After the dispute barren draw between the two sides in Thika two weeks ago, the two teams met again on Saturday in Narok for the return leg, this time Gor Mahia as hosts. Inside the first three minutes, Sapahan Oyugi made it 1-0 for the Brewers before Deogratious Ojok sealed the win in the second half

The win saw Tusker cut Kakamega Homeboyz’s lead at the top of the log to just seven points with eight matches left before the season come to a close. The Brewers are keen on defending their title while the Bernard Mwalala-led Homeboyz are craving for a first-ever league title.

In his post-match interview, Spier said the match was evenly contested but rued the defensive errors that resulted in Tusker picking all the points denting Gor Mahia’s chances of reclaiming the league title. He however hopes that his side picks lessons from the mistakes made in the game ahead of next weekend’s showdown against KCB.

“It was a disputed match, it was equal but at the beginning of the match, our naivety and an individual mistake gave them the goal. The first goal was an individual error while the second was a collective mistake and at this level, such mistakes are punished. We have to learn and avoid such situations. The focus now is our next game against KCB,” he said.

The tactician further reiterated that he is rebuilding Gor Mahia in readiness for next season where he expects them to compete.

“As I have always said, we are a team under reconstruction, we have brought very young players in the team, and we are trying to rebuild a good team for next season,” he added.
