A first half Rama Salim goal helped Gor Mahia see off Oserian Fc at Nairobi’s City Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

The hosts dictated the opening stages, and were denied an early goal. Defender Ivan Anguyo was judged to have handled the ball before scrambling in Mosoti header from inside the six yard.

Kevin Omomdi then shot wide an effort from the edge of the box. But it was a midfielder Rama Salim who pounced on a spill by Oserian keeper Geroge Ochieng to score the day’s all important goal for the hosts. Right fullback Solomon Nasio overlapped to deliver a right out footed half volley that the visiting keeper failed to handle safely.

Both teams would then get their fair shares of opportunities before the break. Lack of clear cut finishing would see all the chances go to waste. A bursting run by Aziz Mohammed would create a two against two situation for the visitors, but a hurried delivery saw his striking partner locked out on the by line by Anguyo. A little more composure is what he needed to craft a proper delivery.

Action then shifted to the Oserian end to see Ugandan forward Sserenkuma’s slow reaction allow defender Edwin Misiko boot away a chest down by Kevin Omondi. What a chance to only win a corner.

A late first half knock saw Gor midfielder Joseph Njuguna being replaced by Ali Abondo, as the match headed for the break.

The second half action did not create any pulsating action. However it was the visitors who showed more resilience and strength as they occasionally forced their hosts back pedaling. Skipper Franklyn Osama was marvellous with upfront runs.

Gor Mahia substitute Edwin Lavatsa saw his long range effort tipped out by keeper George Ochieng. The visitors’ last chance for solace saw another second half substitute Mathias Okoro shoot miserably wide from the edge of the box after a well laid cut back by Aziz Mohammed.

Gor Mahia leapfrog 2010 champions Ulinzi to 5th position on superior goal difference. The military side plays away in Chemelil over the weekend.

K’Ogalo playmaker Moses Odhiambo won the man of the match accolade that saw him walk away with a DSTV Mobile Walka from broadcasters SuperSport.
