Gor Mahia return to FKF Premier League action on Sunday with a home fixture against Mara Sugar at Nyayo National Stadium, kick-off set for 4pm, as the record champions look to consolidate their position at the top of the SportPesa League standings.
The league leaders head into the encounter on the back of a solid run of form, having registered three wins and two draws in their last five matches. That sequence includes a dramatic 3–2 comeback victory over Murang’a Seal last Wednesday, a result that highlighted Gor Mahia’s resilience and attacking depth.
Mara Sugar, meanwhile, arrive in Nairobi placed 13th on the table with 20 points. The Sugar Men have struggled for consistency in recent weeks, recording just one win and one draw from their last five outings as they continue to look over their shoulders in the lower half of the standings.
Recent head-to-head history also favours Gor Mahia. The two sides met twice last season, with K’Ogalo completing a dominant double. An away 2–0 win was secured through goals from Austine Odhiambo and Gedeon Bendeka, before a comprehensive 4–0 victory in the reverse fixture, with Musa Shariff, Enock Morrison, Gedeon Bendeka and Alpha Onyango all finding the net.
However, Gor Mahia will be without midfielder Enock Morrison for Sunday’s clash after he picked up his fifth yellow card of the season. His suspension is likely to force a reshuffle in midfield as the league leaders aim to maintain their momentum at the summit.
Nyayo Stadium is expected to provide a fitting stage for what could be a crucial fixture in the ongoing title race.
