Match Summary

The much anticipated “Mashemeji” Derby fails to live up to the expectation and ends in a barren draw in a Sunday match played at Moi Internationa Sports Center Kasarani.

Gor had the most of the chances at goal in the first half, with AFC Leopard goalkeeper Benjamin Ochan making saves and keeping shemeji in the game.

In a rather low esteem game and with few fans selected due to COVID-19 regulations, it was anticipated the push by the 12th man would be lacking.

K’Ogalo almost registered opener 3 minutes to the game after skipper Kenneth Muguna’s freekick was punched away by AFC goalkeeper Ochan for a corner kick.

Muguna delivered another of his dangerous set pieces in the eighth minute, this that saw Ochan making another save, punching it into Momanyi’s path. But Momanyi shot went over the bar, a shy of relief he the naive AFC Leopards.

Gor Mahia first half dominance lasted for 22 minutes before AFC Leopards got a chance to feel beyond their boundary and have a taste towards K’Ogalo goal post as Elvis Rupia strike went wide after being picked up by Austine Odhiambo.

There was no chance for the visitors as they struggled to be creative up front, struggling to penetrate the more organized and solid Gor Mahia midfield which had Kenneth Muguna, Ernest Wendo, and Alpha Onyango manning.

The draw is the 32nd between K’Ogalo and Ingwe since they first met in 1968 and it is the first goalless result since 2017 when they shared the spoils in the second game of the league then.
