In 1980 , Gor Mahia qualified to play in the CECAFA cup alongside arch rivals Abaluhya FC. David Otti was hired as coach. Otti had an illustrious playing career for Uganda Cranes whom he also coached when they qualified for the Africa Nations cup in 1976.
