Gor Mahia’s dynamic midfielder, Austin Odhiambo, finds himself battling yet another injury, creating an urgent race against time to regain his fitness before the club’s upcoming match following the international break.

Just three weeks ago, he made a triumphant return to the pitch, showcasing his talent by scoring an impressive four goals in just two games. His electrifying performances included two stunning braces—first against Kariobangi Sharks in the league and then against Githurai All Stars in the intense Mozzart Bet Cup round of 32, both played under the vibrant lights of Dandora Stadium.

Odhiambo’s remarkable resurgence followed a frustrating knee injury he sustained in January during a tough match against Tusker FC in Machakos. His dazzling comeback on the field earned him a coveted call-up to the national team, Harambee Stars, under the guidance of the new coach, Benni McCarthy. The national squad has been intensively preparing for crucial World Cup qualifiers against Gambia in Ivory Coast on Thursday and then against Gabon on Sunday at the iconic Nyayo National Stadium.

However, during Gor Mahia’s hard-fought 2-0 victory over Bandari FC on Saturday, Odhiambo faced a harsh setback. He was visibly struggling, and after a brave effort, he had to be substituted in the 57th minute—an unfortunate moment that left fans concerned. When the Harambee Stars travelling squad was revealed on Monday, Odhiambo’s absence from the lineup ignited a flurry of questions among supporters, who were left wondering why last season’s league MVP was missing from the roster.

While it remains unconfirmed if his exclusion was solely due to injury, whispers suggest that Machakos’ knee problem may have resurfaced. As he grapples with this challenge, Odhiambo is now racing against time to ensure he is fit for Gor Mahia’s league match, scheduled to resume in about a week.

“Austin is injured. The knee issue from Machakos appears to have flared up again, and the club’s medical team is diligently assessing the situation. He struggled to maintain his footing against Bandari and had to be pulled from the game. It remains unclear how soon he can return to action, but we’re hopeful he’ll be back in fighting form after the international break,” a source from the club shared with Mozzart Sport.

Gor Mahia will meet AFC Leopard in a much-anticipated match at Nyayou National Stadium, a game that promises to be an exciting encounter after the break.
