Gor Mahia head coach Charles Akonnor has admitted that the injury to defender Sylvester Owino is a major setback for the team, but insists the squad has the depth to cope as the season enters a crucial stage.
Speaking after the injury update, Akonnor acknowledged the impact of losing the experienced centre-back but expressed confidence in the players available to step up.
“It’s a big blow to us, more so at this crucial stage of the season, but we will manage,” Akonnor stated.

The Ghanaian tactician emphasized that the team must now rely on the strength of the squad as they continue their push in the league.
“We have to find a way to navigate with the available players because they are equal to the task. We just hope for no further setbacks in terms of injuries,” he added.
Owino’s absence comes at a delicate moment for Gor Mahia, who have been enjoying a strong run in the league and remain among the frontrunners for the title. The defender’s injury means the technical bench will have to reshuffle the backline as the record Kenyan champions prepare for a demanding run of fixtures.
Despite the setback, Akonnor remains optimistic that his side can maintain their momentum and continue their impressive campaign.
