Former Gor Mahia head coach Zedekiah Otieno has been sacked by Tanzanian side Tanzania Prisons FC following a heavy 4-1 defeat to Coastal Union on Wednesday.
Otieno, who handled Kenyan record champions Gor Mahia last season, continues to endure a difficult spell on the touchline after his exit from K’Ogalo. His time at Gor Mahia ended without silverware, as the club lost the FKF Premier League title to Kenya Police FC and fell 2-1 to Nairobi United in the FKF Cup final.
The 56-year-old had been brought in by Tanzania Prisons to steady the ship after they narrowly avoided relegation last season, finishing 13th with 31 points from eight wins, seven draws and 15 defeats. However, his reign was cut short almost immediately after the heavy defeat exposed the same defensive frailties that plagued Gor Mahia in the latter stages of last season.
For Gor Mahia fans, Otieno’s struggles in Tanzania echo the frustrations experienced at Kasarani and Nyayo, where inconsistent performances and missed opportunities ultimately cost K’Ogalo silverware.
Tanzania Prisons are now expected to appoint an interim coach as they look to avoid another relegation battle, while Otieno’s search for stability on the sidelines continues.
