“Bring us the table, we want to sit on it!” the air ranted as Gor Mahia stormed back to the summit of the Kenya Premier League after dismantling Kariobangi Sharks 4–1 in a thrilling midweek showdown at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
It was football with attitude, swagger, and a clear statement of intent.
Ben Stanley Omondi opened the floodgates in the 19th minute before Ebenezer Adukwaw doubled the lead deep into first-half stoppage time (45+2). Sharks briefly threatened a comeback with a goal in the 56th minute, but that only woke the giant.

Substitute Samuel Kapen tore through the Sharks’ defense in the 82th minute before Felix Oluoch sealed the demolition three minutes later, sending the Green Army into delirium.
Why the “table” chants?
Before kickoff, K’Ogalo sat fourth with 23 points. Kakamega Homeboyz, AFC Leopards, and Tusker were all ahead with 24 points, separated only by goal difference. During the league break, Gor Mahia’s arch-rivals AFC Leopards had been enjoying life at the top, bragging loudly, perhaps too loudly, for the first time in decades.
What Leopards fans didn’t realize was that the stay was temporary.

K’Ogalo were simply away, warming up.
So when the final whistle blew against Sharks, the message from the terraces was clear: the rightful owners had returned to pick up their table. The Green Army went looking for it, demanding it back, loudly and unapologetically.
Current standings
With the emphatic win, Gor Mahia now lead the KPL standings with 26 points, two clear of Kakamega Homeboyz, who sit second on 24 points, but crucially, Homeboyz have played two more matches than K’Ogalo.
As the league heats up, one question hangs in the air:
Who will still be sitting on that table when the final whistle of the season is blown?
For now, it’s green.
