Kakamega, Kenya – Austin “Makamu” Oduor Origi was fondly remembered during a heartfelt memorial service held at his family home in Makunga, marking the first anniversary of his passing.

The event brought together family, friends, and notable figures from the soccer community, highlighting the profound impact he had on those around him.

Among the attendees was Eliud Owalo, the Patron of Gor Mahia, who took the opportunity to honor Austin’s legacy by presenting new playing kits and footballs to local teams, Makunga FC and Shikomari FC.

This gesture was not only a tribute to Austin’s dedication to the sport but also a means of ensuring that his spirit continues to inspire young athletes in the community.

The service was a deeply emotional occasion, particularly when the Origi family, including Micke, Tony, and Arnold, gifted Owalo with a special Ostersunds FC jersey. The shirt was inscribed with Austin’s renowned number 6, a number associated with both Gor Mahia and the Harambee Stars, symbolizing his enduring connection to the teams and his significant contributions to Kenyan football.

The gathering was further graced by several Kenyan soccer legends who had come to pay their respects. Among them were John “Bobby” Ogola, Washington Muhanji, Maurice Ouma “Ole Tunda,” and many others who shared stories and memories that illustrated Austin’s profound influence both on and off the field.

Together, they celebrated a man whose passion for the sport united many, forever leaving a legacy that will inspire future generations. The warmth and camaraderie displayed at this event not only honored Austin’s memory but also reinforced the strong bonds within the soccer community in Kenya.
