Gor Mahia continues to impress in the FKF Premier League as they extended their unbeaten run to four games with a commanding 2-0 victory over Mathare United at Kasarani Stadium.
Head coach Charles Akonnor expressed his pride in the team’s collective growth and resilience, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and shared belief as key components of their recent success.
The match displayed a tactical mastery from the all-time champions. After a tightly contested first half, Shariff Musa broke the deadlock shortly after the restart, capitalizing on a well-executed play that caught Mathare off guard.

Bryson Wangai sealed the victory with a goal deep into stoppage time, showcasing Gor Mahia’s ability to remain composed under pressure and convert critical opportunities.
Following the match, Akonnor praised his players for their consistency and adaptability. “The boys are doing well. They’re processing exactly what we’re asking of them, and they believe in themselves,” he said, highlighting a growing sense of unity within the squad. This victory means Gor Mahia has now collected 12 points out of a possible 15 after a disappointing start to the season, where they suffered a loss to Bidco United in their opener.
Akonnor noted that the players have embraced their learning journey, with every match serving as a stepping stone for improvement. “We’re all growing together, coaches, players, and the entire team. Each game is a chance to learn, and the players have really embraced that,” he stated.

The coach also elaborated on the strategic adjustments made during the game, particularly in response to Mathare’s tactics. “When they switched to a back three in the second half, it opened up space on the wings for us. The boys executed it perfectly,” Akonnor explained.
Moreover, he emphasized the importance of a cohesive team environment, where every player, including those on the bench, understands their role. “When we make substitutions, we’re confident that whoever comes in knows their role and fits right in,” he remarked, illustrating the strong culture of preparedness within the squad.
Despite their recent successes, Akonnor remained grounded, acknowledging that the journey is far from over. “We’re not perfect yet, football is a continuous learning process. But we’re learning together, and the players are improving every game,” he concluded.

With this latest victory, Gor Mahia is sitting comfortably near the top of the league table, on the pursuit of a record-extending championship, fueled by their remarkable teamwork and shared vision for success.
The fans, too, are riding high on the wave of optimism, eagerly anticipating what the rest of the season holds for their beloved K’Ogalo.
