In a thrilling SportPesa Premier League matchup at the Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani, Gor Mahia showcased their championship pedigree, claiming a decisive 2-0 victory over Mathare United. This win marked Gor Mahia’s fourth consecutive league triumph, as they maintained their strong momentum in the season.

The match kicked off with an even tempo, each team eager to gain an early edge. Gor Mahia’s Patrice Essombe showcased his attacking prowess in the first half, coming close to scoring after a slick run down the wing by Shariff Musa. In the 13th minute, Essombe narrowly missed the target, steering a low cross just wide of the post. His next opportunity arrived shortly thereafter, but he was unable to convert a headed attempt that sailed over the bar.

Mathare United appeared poised to break the deadlock when Kevin Ouru netted a goal in the 26th minute, only to have the assistant referee’s flag call the play back for offside, thwarting their hopes early on. Despite the setback, Mathare continued to press, with Eli Asieche and Fidel Otieno crafting a promising chance, yet Otieno’s misjudged touch prevented a clean strike at goal.

As the first half progressed, Gor Mahia began to assert their dominance. Essombe was again at the center of the action, showcasing his skill with a captivating run through Mathare’s defense, but his shot drifted wide just before the halftime whistle.

The breakthrough finally came shortly after the half-time interval. Gor Mahia’s Shariff Musa capitalized on a beautifully orchestrated team play, slotting home in the 48th minute to give K’Ogalo a vital lead. The momentum shifted significantly in favor of the visitors, prompting Mathare to intensify their efforts in search of an equalizer. Despite their best efforts, including a close-range effort from Felix Oluoch that was thwarted by a superb save from Gor Mahia’s keeper Byrne Omondi, Mathare struggled to find the back of the net.

Mathare’s attempts were dealt a blow when substitute Derrick Anami had to leave the field due to injury shortly after his introduction, forcing an unexpected tactical change for the hosts. However, they continued to push forward, with Musa Masika testing Omondi from distance in the 83rd minute, only to see his shot met by another impressive save.

As time ticked down, Mathare was inches away from leveling the score when a well-placed header from Okoth seemed destined for the top corner, only for Omondi to pull off a remarkable reflex save, keeping Gor Mahia’s clean sheet intact.

The final blow for Mathare struck in stoppage time, as Bryson Wangai seized on a defensive error, slotting home to seal the win at 2-0. With this performance, Gor Mahia not only earned three points but also reinforced their position as title contenders, leaving Mathare United to lament missed opportunities and defensive shortcomings.

As the season progresses, the champions continue to impress, leaving fans eagerly anticipating their next encounter as they look to build on this successful run.
