Harambee Stars Head Coach Benni McCarthy has unveiled an exciting 24-man squad that will represent Kenya in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Burundi and Ivory Coast.

This meticulously curated lineup combines emerging talents from the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) with seasoned foreign-based players, along with several debutants eager to make a significant impact on the international stage.

Alpha Onyango

The squad’s selection underscores McCarthy’s faith in homegrown talent, particularly highlighting six standout players from Gor Mahia, one of Kenya’s most storied football clubs.

Leading the charge is the gifted Austin “Roll Royce” Odhiambo, returning to the midfield. Renowned for his remarkable skills and vision, Odhiambo aims to bring creativity and dynamism to the heart of the team.

Bryne Omondi

Joining him in midfield are Alpha Onyango and Ben Stanley Omondi, both of whom are expected to enhance the team’s offensive play and provide a solid foundation for defensive stability. Onyango’s agility and passing ability, coupled with Stanley’s tactical awareness, will be crucial for the team’s overall performance.

Byrne Omondi has joined the goalkeeping department following his remarkable performance in the recent CHAN 2024. His exceptional skills will empower Kenya to rise to the challenge against our remaining opponents, Burundi and Ivory Coast.

Michael Kibwage

Defensively, the squad features Sylvester Owino and Michael Kibwage, both known for their unwavering commitment and strong physical presence. They will be essential in fortifying the backline against the tough challenges posed by their opponents, ensuring that the team remains resilient under pressure.

The squad also proudly includes former Gor Mahia star Alphones Omija, who has found success playing for ES Sahel in Tunisia, and Ronney Onyango, currently competing with Sogndal Fotball in Norway. Their international experience is invaluable, as it adds depth and a wealth of knowledge to the team’s defense.

Sylvester Owino

The announcement of this squad has ignited enthusiasm among fans and analysts alike, who eagerly anticipate the chance to witness the development and potential of these players on the continental stage.

The qualifiers represent a vital opportunity for the Harambee Stars to demonstrate their skills and determination. Although they are no longer in the running for the 2026 World Cup, McCarthy’s leadership brings renewed hope and confidence for a commendable performance in these crucial matches.
