Gor Mahia’s newly signed defender, Michael Kibwage, is rallying his teammates to transform their initial setback into a driving force for future successes.

Following a disappointing 1-0 loss to Bidco United during the SportPesa League on Sunday, 21st September 2025 at Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani. The game was marred by a last-minute penalty, and the team face the challenge of regrouping under the guidance of their new Ghanaian coach, Charles Akonnor.

Kibwage, who joined the squad with high hopes, expressed frustration over their failure to capitalize on available scoring opportunities, admitting that the squad was guilty of missing crucial chances to secure a victory. Despite the sting of defeat, he remains optimistic, viewing the match as a learning experience that will catalyze change in their approach.

“It was very painful to concede in the manner in which we did, but the silver lining is that it’s only the first match of the season,” Kibwage remarked in a candid interview with Telecomasia.net.

He emphasized the importance of taking lessons from the setback, stating, “Of course, we would have loved to start with a win, but we take the lessons and move on to improve in the next few games. I do not doubt that we will bounce back.”

Kibwage believes in the potential of his teammates, highlighting their strong squad capable of achieving dominance in the league.

He acknowledged the disappointment felt by the fans, who had high expectations following a trophyless last season, but reassured them that brighter days are ahead. “We assure them they will have something to smile about soon,” he added.

The pressure is mounting as Gor Mahia prepares to face Sofapaka this coming Saturday, September 27. A victory is essential not only for points on the board but to restore faith among their dedicated supporters, who are eager to witness a return to form after last season’s struggles.

With Kibwage’s determination and the team’s resolve, fans hope to see a revitalized display from K’Ogalo as they strive to reclaim their place at the top of Kenyan football.
