Gor Mahia’s Head Coach, Charles Akonnor, is brimming with optimism ahead of their highly anticipated friendly match against Tanzanian giants Simba SC. The match is set to take place during the annual Simba Day celebration at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar Es Salaam today, Wednesday, 10th 2025, making it a significant event for both teams and their supporters.

This year, Gor Mahia have the honor of being the chief guest team, a testament to their celebrated status in Kenyan football. Akonnor recognizes the importance of this occasion, framing it as more than just a friendly; it’s a crucial pre-season opportunity for his squad to gauge their readiness for the upcoming challenges.

“Simba is a big club. This will be a big match for us, and we are looking forward to it. It’s an important pre-season match; for us, it’s a training match but still a big one. We are very confident, and we believe we will have a very good match tomorrow,” Akonnor remarked in a press interview.

As the team prepares for the showdown, Akonnor emphasizes the seriousness of the engagement.

“We are not here for fun; we mean business. This match is important for us, and we have to do well. The match will give us a certain level of understanding of where we are. We want to do well,” he stated, underlining the competitive spirit that drives his squad.

The last time Gor Mahia clashed with Simba SC was during the SportPesa Super Cup tournament in May 2018, where K’Ogalo emerged victorious with a 2-0 scoreline, thanks to goals from Meddie Kagera and Jacques Tuyisenge. Since that encounter, anticipation has grown among fans, who have frequently exchanged banter over social media, eagerly awaiting this new showdown.

Simba SC fans are flocking to Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar Es Salaam for the Simba Day celebration.

As it stands, Simba SC holds a prominent position in the regional CAF rankings, having reached the finals of the CAF Confederation Cup in recent years, which adds to the excitement surrounding tonight’s match.

Kickoff is set for 7.30 PM at a packed Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, where the electric atmosphere will undoubtedly energize both teams as they take to the pitch for what promises to be an unforgettable clash.
