Gor Mahia has announced that it will not be renewing the contracts of two key players, Boniface Omondi and Samuel Onyango, which are set to expire in August and September 2025, respectively. The club communicated this decision through a formal letter sent to both players, providing them clarity on their futures with the team.

In response to their disappointing second-place finish in the FKF Premier League and early exit in the FKF Cup, K’Ogalo undertook a significant restructuring of its management. This included the dismissal of the entire technical bench.

The club is now actively seeking new coaching talent and has opened the application process for interested candidates while simultaneously working on reshaping the playing squad.

As part of this overhaul, the management has decided to let go of players whose contracts have expired and who are no longer seen as vital to the team’s future. Boniface Omondi and Samuel Onyango are the first players to be released in this process.

In a statement posted on social media, the club said, “We have formally notified Boniface Omondi and Samuel Onyango that their contracts, which were set to end in August and September 2025 respectively, will not be renewed upon expiration. Therefore, we have mutually agreed to part ways.”

Omondi, widely known by his nickname ‘Bajaj,’ made his return to Gor Mahia last year after a stint at Wazito FC, which unfortunately went out of business. He initially joined the club in 2016 after transferring from Nzoia Sugar, where he had made a name for himself.

Similarly, Samuel Onyango returned to Gor Mahia in September 2022 after brief periods with Kenya Police FC and other teams. He originally joined the club in 2017 from Ulinzi Stars under the guidance of Scottish coach Dylan Kerr, contributing to the team’s impressive tally of three league titles. However, his second stint did not see the same level of on-field success as his first.

With both players now seeking new opportunities with other clubs, their departures are likely just the beginning of a significant team reformation. The futures of long-serving players Philemon Otieno and Ernest Wendo also hang in the balance, as their contracts are nearing expiration and their status within the squad remains uncertain. This ongoing transition reflects Gor Mahia’s commitment to revitalizing the team in pursuit of greater success in upcoming competitions.
