Gor Mahia’s prolific midfielder Alpha Onyango has reached out to the K’Ogalo fans, thanking them for their tremendous support throughout the season.
On his social media page, Onyango shared a heartfelt message, expressing remorse for a mistake made during the Mozzart Bet Cup finals on Sunday, the 29th. He missed a crucial penalty opportunity with two minutes remaining; had he converted it, the game would have gone into extra time, giving K’Ogalo another chance to fight for the cup.
“Yesterday’s final will forever live in my heart, not for the glory we hoped for, but for the pain I know I caused many of you. With that miss, I felt the weight of every fan, every teammate, and every dream we carried all season. I take full responsibility for the moment that slipped away,” Onyango wrote.
Gor Mahia lost the match 2-1 to Nairobi United FC, a result that secured a ticket to the CAF Confederation Cup for the winners.
Nevertheless, he expressed gratitude towards the fans for their unwavering support and promised to improve next season.
“But even in this pain, I am grateful. We appreciate your love, your chants, and your belief in us throughout the entire season. You lifted us with your passion, and we wouldn’t have reached the final without you,” he added.
“This moment will not break me; it will build me. I promise to come back stronger and work harder than ever to earn this badge. Asanteni sana kwa msimu mzuri. I’m proud to be a K’Ogalo soldier,” he concluded.
Gor Mahia finished the season without a trophy in their cabinet, a situation not seen since 2016.
