Gor Mahia midfielder Ben Stanley Omondi is keen to hit a major milestone in his young career by helping his team win the Mozzart Bet Cup this Sunday, June 29, at Ulinzi Sports Complex.

Omondi, who’s on loan from Migori Youth, is set to play in what could be his first big cup final as Gor Mahia takes on National Super League (NSL) champions Nairobi United in a crucial match.

The winner not only gets to celebrate a domestic cup victory but also secures the chance to represent Kenya in the CAF Confederation Cup and takes home a Ksh2 million cash prize.

Talking to Mozzart Sport before the big game, Omondi shared his excitement about lifting his first-ever trophy, calling the final a dream chance to make his mark in the club’s history.

“Since this is my first shot at a major trophy, I’m really pumped to help the team win the Mozzart Bet Cup. Winning my first silverware would be amazing, and I’m ready to make that dream come true,” he said.

Since joining during the mid-season transfer window from Kakamega Homeboyz, Omondi has been one of Gor Mahia’s standout players, adding energy and strength to the midfield, especially during the cup run.

Omondi also highlighted how the whole team is motivated to give their loyal fans something to cheer about after the disappointment of not retaining their FKF Premier League title. They wrapped up the 2024/25 season in second place, six points behind champions Kenya Police FC, who took the title in a tough race.

“We want to win the cup for our fans. They’ve stuck by us and shown incredible support. They deserve something to celebrate after we missed out on the FKFPL title. Bringing home the cup would be a huge relief and would restore some pride,” Omondi added.

Last year, Kenya Police FC took home the Mozzart Bet Cup after beating KCB FC 9-8 in a nail-biting penalty shootout. This time, Gor Mahia is looking to reclaim their spot on top by going up against Nairobi United, a team that’s riding high after getting promoted to the top league.

Both teams made it to the final by defeating Murang’a Seal and Mara Sugar FC on penalties, respectively.
