Gor Mahia’s head coach, Zedekiah Otieno, is ready for a tough match against Nairobi United in the Mozzart Bet Cup final on Sunday. He wants K’Ogalo to win the Cup after missing out on the league title that went to Kenya Police FC.
“We had two goals at the beginning of the league: to win the league and to win the Mozzart Bet Cup. The league is lost, so now we focus on this cup. We need to show strong effort and commitment to win on Sunday.”
Nairobi United, the National Super League champions, reached the final by defeating Tusker, KCB, Kakamega Homeboyz, and Mara Sugar. Zedekiah praised Nairobi United for their impressive journey to the final in their first season.
“They have beaten strong teams like Tusker and Kakamega Homeboyz. They earned their spot in the final, and we will treat them as equals, not underdogs.”
He stressed that his team will respect Nairobi United and will not take them lightly. “Favourites don’t always win. Sometimes, underdogs surprise them. We must give Nairobi United credit for the teams they have defeated to get here,” he said.
K’Ogalo will be without two defenders: Geoffrey Ochieng, who had a knee injury and underwent surgery, and Kennedy Onyango, who broke his leg weeks ago and is currently undergoing intensive treatment. Additionally, goalkeeper Giscard Mavoungou is also unavailable due to an injury that required surgery.
“Geoffrey had surgery and will not play. Our keeper Giscard also had an operation, and Kennedy Onyango broke his leg and had surgery. These three players will not be available,” Otieno said.
The match will start at 3:00 PM at Ulinzo Sports Complex in Nairobi on Sunday, the 29th.
