John Ouko, affectionately known as Koffi, a dedicated member of Gor Mahia’s security personnel, was laid to rest this evening 27th June 2025 in his hometown of Kanyimach, located in Rongo sub-county.

On June 3, 2025, Ouko tragically passed away after collapsing during the highly anticipated Mashemeji Derby, a fierce football rivalry, held at Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay. He was immediately hospitalised and underwent treatment at Homa Bay County Teaching and Referral Hospital, but unfortunately, he could not be saved.

Born on January 1, 1974, John Ouko had an enriching educational background. He began his academic journey at Kanyimath Primary School before progressing to SSD Secondary School in Nairobi, where his interest in the textiles industry began to take shape. Pursuing this passion, he enrolled in a tailoring college, equipping himself with the necessary skills that allowed him to work in various clothing industries throughout his career.

In 2007, Ouko ventured into politics and made a notable attempt to contribute to his community, but came second in Kamagambo ward election. However, his love for football management beckoned him, leading him to join Gor Mahia security in 2013. In this role, he served as Deputy Steward, where he dedicated himself to maintaining the safety and integrity of the beloved club until his untimely death.

John Ouko leaves behind a loving family, including his wife, Dorothy, and their three children, who will cherish his memory and the impact he had on their lives. His contributions to both football and his community will not be forgotten. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
