Gor Mahia wrapped up the 2024/25 season by holding the newly crowned FKF Premier League champions, Kenya Police FC, to a 1-1 draw at the Ulinzi Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon. It was a thrilling match that gave Kenya Police a bit of a challenge as they sought a winning send-off.

Even though Kenya Police had already claimed the league title, Gor Mahia brought their game, determined to finish their season positively. The first 22 minutes saw a balanced and relatively quiet display, but then things kicked off in the 24th minute when Sharrif Musa scored, breaking the deadlock for Gor Mahia. He received the ball on the wing and executed an impressive solo run, weaving past three Kenya Police defenders before slotting it coolly past Job Ochieng. What a moment!

Kenya Police quickly sought to respond and put the pressure on. In the 35th minute, Levin Odhiambo made a fantastic tackle to thwart David Simiyu, who had a one-on-one opportunity. Just a few minutes later, the Police side created another dangerous moment, but thanks to Kevin Omondi and his defenders, the danger was cleared, much to the delight of Gor Mahia fans.

In the 39th minute, Police had a great chance to even the score, with David Simiyu, set up beautifully by Tyson Otieno, just unable to find the back of the net. The first half ended with Gor Mahia leading 1-0.

After the break, Kenya Police head coach Etienne Ndayiragije made some strategic changes, bringing in Kenneth Muguna and David Okoth for Tyson Otieno and Brian Musa. These fresh legs added urgency to the Police’s attacking play. They came out strong in the second half, almost scoring when David Simiyu won a free-kick just outside the box, but Kenneth Muguna’s effort went wide.

Finally, in the 56th minute, the Police’s hard work paid off! David Okoth rose brilliantly at the near post to head home the equalizer, making it 1-1.

From that point, the match turned into an exciting back-and-forth battle, with both teams eager to take the lead. Gor Mahia thought they had done just that in the 72nd minute when Austin Odhiambo set up Benson Omalla for what seemed like the go-ahead goal, but the referee ruled it offside.

Kenya Police had another close moment when David Okoth drove into the box, only to have Joshua Onyango win the ball cleanly. This left the Police fans frustrated, hoping for a penalty that never came. Overall, it was a fantastic match that showcased the spirit and determination of both teams!

The new champions had a great season, racking up 4 points against Gor Mahia—just like they did last season!
