Gor Mahia meets bogey City Stars on Thursday

Nairobi City Stars vs Gor Mahia in Machakos

After the postponement of the Mashemeji Derby on Sunday, Gor Mahia is set to face Nairobi City Stars in a crucial FKF Premier League match on Thursday at Dandora Stadium in Nairobi.

This will be the 30th game of the FKF  Premier League (FKFPL) season and is critical for the defending champions. Gor Mahia is currently in third place with 53 points and a game in hand, 5 points behind league leaders Kenya Police FC, while Tusker FC is closely following with 55 points.

The competition for the top position in the KPL table is fierce, as the top three teams are gearing up to make a final push for the title. Shabana follows in fourth place with 49 points, making the 2025 FKF Premier League season more competitive than ever.

With only four matches remaining, no team in the top flight wants to drop any points at this stage. Gor Mahia will take the field with one clear goal: to win and apply pressure on the league leaders, who are currently enjoying a strong run.

Coach Mihic’s side will host City Stars, which is fighting to avoid relegation, making this a high-stakes match as City Stars aims to secure their place in next season’s KPL campaign.

However, City Stars has historically struggled against the all-time champions Gor Mahia. In their five FKF Premier League encounters, the Kawangware side has managed to secure only one victory, which came in a first-leg match played on October 28, 2024, at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

Unlike the first leg, where key players were absent, Mihic is expected to put together a strong squad for this match. Notable players include Had Mathews on the post, Alphonse Omija, Sylvester Owino, Geoffrey Ochieng’, on defence and Austin Odhiambo controlling the midfield.

The match is scheduled to kick off at 4:00 PM EA time, and tickets are available at https://mticket.ke/m/gorvcty.
