Gor humbled by Mahia in an internal match after Derby Postponement

Gor Mahia internal friendly match

Gor Mahia is making the most of their downtime this weekend by having an internal match after their highly anticipated Mashemeji Derby against AFC Leopards got postponed. The big game was supposed to happen on Sunday at Kasarani, but they had to call it off because the venue just wasn’t up to par.

Since they weren’t playing a real match, Coach Sinisa Mihic decided to set up an internal ‘derby’ where Gor faced off against Mahia in a heated backyard showdown. “Since we aren’t playing any competitive games this weekend, we thought it would be great to have this internal derby match — it turned out to be a tough and exciting battle at the training ground,” the club shared on X.

In this friendly clash, Mahia, in white jerseys, beat Gor, who were in green, with a score of 2-1. Austin Odhiambo and Sharif Musa scored for Mahia, while Christopher Ochieng managed to grab a consolation goal for Gor.

This match was a good way for Mihic’s squad to stay sharp as they aim to defend their title. With 21 championships under their belt, they’re looking to add another one, but they’re up against tough competition from league leaders Kenya Police and Tusker.

Gor Mahia has a game in hand with the postponed Derby, and with just a few matches left—four for Kenya Police and Tusker, and five for Gor—there’s no room for mistakes if they want to keep their title hopes alive.
