The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has firmly dismissed the allegations made by Gor Mahia regarding the events that unfolded at Gisii Stadium in Kisii during their match against ShabanaShabana on Sunday, May 4, 2025.
The FKF has accused Gor Mahia of distorting the narrative, insisting that there were no incidents of violence reported during the match, even though several fans sustained injuries and required medical attention at a local hospital.
FKF Secretary General Harold Ndege emphasized the challenges in addressing Gor Mahia’s claims without receiving specific reports from the game’s officiating referee or the match commissioner.
He referenced the official report from the match commissioner, which indicated that the atmosphere within the stadium was deemed suitable for play, despite acknowledging visible confrontations among fans both inside and outside the venue leading up to the match.
“According to the information I’ve gathered from the center referee and the match commissioner, a discussion took place with representatives from both teams, and there was mutual agreement for the match to go ahead as planned. The game commenced and concluded without further incident,” Ndege elaborated.
In a rebuttal to FKF’s assertions, Gor Mahia conveyed their astonishment that the match proceeded despite prior assurances from the match commissioner.

Reports suggest that the commissioner had visited Gor Mahia’s team bus, which was held outside the stadium due to the home team’s refusal to allow entry, and informed the players and technical staff that the match should not go forward given the escalating tensions in the area.
“We were completely taken aback when the match commissioner assured us that the match would not be played due to the situation,” stated Gor Mahia.
Ndege later reiterated, “”Even during the match, there were no incidents of violence. If you analyze the situation critically, the incidents occurred before the event, not during it.”
Contrasting Ndege’s statements, however, were reports indicating that the match was interrupted on four separate occasions due to disruptive behavior from fans of the home team, who hurled objects onto the pitch—some striking players.
This led to an extension of the match’s duration, culminating in a total playtime of 119 minutes.
Amidst the chaos, Gor Mahia managed to clinch a hard-fought victory, with Sylvester Owino netting the decisive goal in the 79th minute, securing a remarkable win under challenging circumstances.
