Gor Mahia football fans will miss out on any action this weekend due to the postponement of the “Mashemeji” Derby, which was scheduled for Sunday, March 2, 2025, at Nyayo Stadium. However, K’Ogalo will play a mid-week FKF Premier League match against Kariobangi Sharks on Wednesday, March 5, at Dandora Stadium in Nairobi.
AFC Leopards, as the home team, faced challenges securing the necessary approvals for stadium usage, and after unsuccessful negotiations, the scheduled derby was ultimately called off. This unexpected turn of events provides the defending champions with additional time to sharpen their strategies for the upcoming showdown against Kariobangi Sharks.
In the words of the club’s official communication portal: “Gor Mahia FC’s senior team will rest until next Wednesday, March 5, 2025, for KFPL Match No. 22 against Kariobangi Sharks. The kick-off time is set for 3:00 PM.”
Currently sitting in third place with 36 points from 21 matches, Gor Mahia is just one game behind the league leaders, Police FC, who stand at 41 points, followed closely by Tusker FC at 39 points.
In their previous encounter, Gor Mahia triumphed over Kariobangi Sharks 1-0 at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, thanks to a brilliant goal from Congolese international Gedeon Bendeka in the 24th minute.
As the team gears up for another title chase, head coach Sinisa Mihic is resolutely focused on bridging the gap with the league leaders, determined to propel Gor Mahia back to the top where they belong.
