Overhaul to the team necessary: Mihic

Gor Mahia head coach Sinisa Mihic has expressed concerns that the current squad is not up to the required standard and needs significant changes to advance to the next level. The Croatian coach believes that an overhaul of the team is necessary to defend their FKF Premier League title successfully.

“We need five new players up front. When a player comes off the bench, they should contribute significantly. Currently, that is not happening. I may leave tomorrow, but if we don’t address this issue, we cannot continue like this,” Mihic stated.

Mihic also criticized the foreign players who joined the club, claiming they do not enhance the team’s quality. He said, “We have players from outside, but they bring nothing to the team… they are just walking around. You cannot be at Gor Mahia without contributing. We missed several chances in the first half, and although we made some personnel changes in the second half that led to a slight improvement, we still need more quality.”

Gor Mahia’s recent draw against Bidco United was their second consecutive tie, following a goalless draw with Tusker FC at the same venue, Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

Many Green Army fans were left wondering ‘what if,’ as Mathare United handed them a perfect opportunity by defeating league leaders Kenya Police 1-0 on the same day.

The draw left Gor Mahia in third place with 36 points, five behind Kenya Police and three behind second-placed Tusker. As they aim for the top spot, the 21-time league champions must also be wary of their rivals, with Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) and AFC Leopards trailing close behind at 35 and 34 points, respectively.

With the Mashemeji Derby looming on March 2, Mihic knows he must get his team performing at their best to quell any discontent among the fans and prevent it from escalating into a mutiny.
