In a thrilling FKF Premier League encounter at Dandora Stadium, Gor Mahia emerged victorious with a 2-1 win over Mathare United after a tense battle on Saturday.

Mathare United, playing at home, entrusted Robert Mboya with goalkeeping duties, with Elli Asieche leading the team in midfield. On the other side, Gor Mahia’s new head coach, Sinisa Mihic, relied on Kevin Omondi in goal, while Philemon Otieno captained the defense and Gedeon Bendeka led the attack.

The game kicked off with Mathare United applying early pressure, and their efforts paid off when captain Elli Asieche scored in the 16th minute, igniting the home crowd. However, Gor Mahia equalized in the 35th minute through Alphonce Omija, setting the stage for an intense second half.

After the break, Gor Mahia intensified their efforts, leading to a strategic battle on the field. Both teams made tactical substitutions, with Gor Mahia’s changes proving crucial. In the 76th minute, a penalty awarded to Gor Mahia saw Enock Morrison coolly converting it, securing a 2-1 lead that they held onto until the final whistle.

This hard-fought victory solidifies Gor Mahia’s position in third place on the league table with 34 points, enhancing their championship aspirations. Meanwhile, Mathare United will regroup after this loss, aiming to bounce back strongly in their upcoming fixture.
