Gor Mahia returned to winning ways on Wednesday afternoon after they dispatched Kakamega Homeboyz 1-0 in an FKF Premier League clash that took place at the Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Wednesday afternoon.
Under interim coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno, the defending champions displayed renewed vigor and tactical discipline.
The breakthrough came in the 33rd minute when Boniface Omondi latched onto Rooney Onyango’s precise cross to score Gor Mahia’s first league goal since early November. Despite sustained pressure from Homeboyz, Gor Mahia held firm, with goalkeeper Gad Matthews playing a crucial role in thwarting the visitors’ sporadic attacks.
The turning point came in the 79th minute when Homeboyz’s Salim Murunga was controversially sent off for a last-man foul on Samuel Kapen.
Although Ronney Onyango missed the resulting free kick, the numerical advantage allowed Gor Mahia to press further. Substitute Bryson Wangai sealed the victory deep into stoppage time with a brilliant solo effort, much to the delight of the K’Ogalo faithful.
