Gor Mahia’s Star Player Injured in Harambee Stars Training

Gor Mahia’s mercurial midfielder Austin Odhiambo has reportedly picked up an injury while in Harambee Stars training camp.

Austin was one of the five Gor Mahia players called up by national team coach Engin Firat for the upcoming double-header matches against Cameroon scheduled for October 11 in Douala, Cameroon and October 14 in Kampala, Uganda.

The players reported to camp on Friday October 5 and have been training before they depart the country for Cameroon later this week.

Speaking to reporters at the camp, Austin said, “Yes, I picked the injury during the training session, and it doesn’t look good for me. ”

The player will be assessed by the medical team to ascertain the true extent of the injury later. It is not yet immediately clear if Austin will withdraw from the squad or just stay with the team when they fly out of the country.

Austin was voted the Most Valuable Player (MVP) for the Kenya Premier League (KPL) last season after playing a crucial role in leading Gor Mahia to their 21st league title with 13 goals and 12 assists in total.

He has already opened his account this season, scoring the opener as Gor Mahia thrashed newly-promoted Mathare United 4-0 in their opening league game last month.

At the time of going to press, there were no other injury concerns for the Harambee Stars. All the foreign-based players called-up have reported to camp, including captain Michael Olunga (Al-Duhail, Qatar), Richard Odada (Dundee United, Scotland), Timothy Ouma (Elfsborg), and Adam Wilson (The New Saints).
