21-time FKFPL champions Gor Mahia have been drawn into a challenging group for the 2024 Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) Kagame Cup.

The tournament, hosted by Tanzania, will run from Tuesday, July 9, to Sunday, July 21, with matches taking place at the Azam Complex in Chamazi and the newly constructed KMC Stadium in Kinondoni, both located in Dar es Salaam.

The competition will feature twelve teams divided into three groups of four. The top team from each group, along with the best runner-up, will progress to the semi-finals.

Gor Mahia, representing Kenya, finds themselves in Group B alongside Zambian Super League champions Red Arrows, Sudanese champions Al Hilal, and Djiboutian side Djibouti Telkom FC.

This will mark the first competitive test for Gor Mahia’s newly appointed head coach, Leonardo Neiva.

The Brazilian tactician will aim to make an immediate impact and end the club’s 39-year drought in the Kagame Cup. The last time Gor Mahia lifted the trophy was in 1985, after a 2-0 victory over arch-rivals AFC Leopards.

Gor Mahia plans to use the Kagame Cup as a preparatory stage for the CAF Champions League qualifiers, scheduled to begin in August.

The stage is set for an exciting and competitive tournament, with Gor Mahia eager to prove their mettle against some of the best teams in the region.

Fans and pundits alike will be watching closely as the K’Ogalo strive for glory in the prestigious Kagame Cup.
