Gor Mahia coach Johnathan McKinstry is keen to see his team not just wrap up the title but also do it by beating their tally for last season.

K’Ogalo inched closer to a record-extending 21st league title with a 1-0 victory against Shabana on Saturday which sees them needing six points from their remaining five matches to be crowned but their coach wants them to do it in style.

ā€œWe have five games to go and we need two wins to confirm the championship. We are not looking at what others do even if someone turns and says our rivals dropped points and we do not need two wins, just one win. We are working to pick up points,ā€

ā€œWe want to do better than last season. Last year we got 70 points, this year we want more. Last year we had 18 clean sheets, this is our 19th clean sheet of the season so we have improved in that statistic.

ā€œWe want all our statistics to improve as a team because if we win the league but do less than last season, a bit of us will feel not so good about that.ā€ McKinstry

Besides the points tally and the clean sheets, Gor Mahia are also the joint leading scorers in the division with 38 goals, same as Kariobangi Sharks, and have the best defence that has let in just 13 goals in 29 matches.

Gor Mahia beat Shabana courtesy of Benson Omala’s goal when the striker slammed home a rebound after the goalkeeper had spilled Austin Odhiambo’s freekick.

Victory saw them move to 63 points, 12 more than second-placed Kenya Police who play against Nairobi City Stars on Sunday, and can beat last season’s tally given 15 more points are up for grabs.

Gor Mahia need wins against KCB in midweek and Muhoroni Youth at the weekend to lay their hands on the title.
