Gor Mahia head coach Johnathan McKinstry suffered a sprained right ankle during the halftime break in the FKF Premier League match against Murang’a Seal at St Sebastian Park on Saturday.

Despite the injury, McKinstry guided his team to a 3-1 victory moving them closer to their 21st league title.

The incident occurred as McKinstry navigated the stands under construction at the home stadium of Murang’a Seal.

“A lot of stadiums in Kenya are building sites at the moment so as I was going to the dressing room at halftime, I fell on the stairs and twisted my ankle,” McKinstry revealed post-match.

The Irishman described his ordeal with a limp evident as he emerged from the tunnel for the second half clearly in pain yet determined.

Despite the setback, McKinstry remained focused on the game, drawing strength from his team’s performance.

“I will be okay and I will happily take that if I can get that second-half performance every week from the boys. I might be out for one or two days from training,” he added.

The match itself was a showcase of Gor Mahia’s strength and tactical prowess. They entered the halftime with a 1-1 draw after an intense first half. Murang’a Seal had managed an equalizer ten minutes before the break setting the stage for a gripping second half.

In the latter half, Gor Mahia displayed remarkable dominance starting with a penalty won by midfielder Austin Odhiambo in the 73rd minute.

Star striker Benson Omalla who was instrumental throughout the match successfully converted the penalty.

Omall;a did not stop there as he sealed the victory with another goal deep into stoppage time marking his 14th goal of the season and solidifying his position at the top of the scorer’s chart.

This victory was Gor Mahia’s third consecutive win extending their lead to 12 points ahead of the second-placed Kenya Police with only six matches remaining in the season.
