Gor Mahia are preparing for an enthralling encounter against Kakamega Homeboyz, set to take place this Saturday, April 6, at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

The much-anticipated match marks Gor Mahia’s return to the pitch after a nearly month-long break, scheduled around the FIFA international window in March.

Under the tutelage of coach Jonathan McKinstry, K’Ogalo is keen to bounce back and continue their pursuit of a record 21st league title.

Currently leading the FKF Premier League table with 50 points from 24 matches, Gor Mahia enjoys a comfortable seven-point lead over their closest rivals. However, McKinstry insists there is no room for complacency.

“We’ve got tough games coming up, including a match against Homeboyz which is always competitive, and a derby against AFC Leopards. We also have a long trip to Nzoia after the international break,” he pointed out, highlighting the challenges ahead.

The team’s resolve is stronger than ever following a 1-0 setback against Bandari FC in their previous outing.

With ten matches left in the season, McKinstry’s confidence in his squad remains unshaken, despite the recent defeat.

“Our goal is to win games. We’d been the best team in the league doing that until we lost our match against Bandari. But trophies aren’t given out in February and March, but in May and June,” McKinstry shared as per The Star.

McKinstry also took the opportunity to critique the playing style of many FKF Premier League teams, which tend to favor aerial balls over ground play. In contrast, Gor Mahia is committed to its philosophy of playing short, precise passes.

“There is a lot of work to be done, but I am happy with what we have achieved so far. We need to polish a few things, like moving the ball into the forward line a little faster,” he explained.

Kakamega Homeboyz, currently seventh in the league with 37 points, pose a significant challenge to Gor Mahia.

Coming off a victory against Tusker in the FKF Cup, Homeboyz are looking to upset the league leaders and narrow the gap. Gor Mahia, however, is determined to extend their lead and edge closer to another league title.
